NDT with Lois Bly, Components of Movement: Principles of NDT
This is a one week course on the treatment of children with cerebral palsy and other Neuromotor disorders. It is designed to give information and cover the following:
- - NDT theoretical background.
- - Components of typical and atypical motor development. Understanding the kinesiological aspect of motor development.
- - The course participants practice NDT Facilitation techniques each day. Participants practice on each other.
- - On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the course instructor will evaluate and treat a child with cerebral palsy in front of the class.
Objectives: At the completion of this course participants will be able to:
- - Demonstrate an understanding of the intricate subtle components of typical and atypical motor development and their interplay.
- - Discuss the principles of assessment and treatment used in NDT and the appropriate application of these principles.
- - Evaluate atypical movements and compensations in patients.
- - Analyze atypical movements and compensations in patients and discuss how these movements interfere with functional activities.
- - Analyze atypical movements in patients and discuss how these movements will interfere with future functional activities.
- - Practice methods of facilitating desired movements while inhibiting undesired movement activity.
- - Critically analyze demonstrations of patient assessment, treatment techniques and sequences.
- - Apply the principles of NDT and handling techniques with current patient population.
